where we stand, 2002

in a library in a language school, Alliance Françoise, Sapporo, Japan

The interior of the library was transformed with artificial lawn on the floor and extra lighting behind a translucent white ceiling, as if the bookshelves were set in nature.　People pass through going about their own purpose, without any knowledge of the work or intent to appreciate it. These people coming and going are incorporated into the work as general and symbolic "humans", who exist between books, that symbolise intelligence, and nature.
